BEHIND THAT FACADE

Saturday 27 October 2012

It's already almost the end of October and my NS life is dwindling in the number of months I've left to serve.

I am getting more unhappy with my stay in Battalion HQ S3 Branch as I was made to handle officers' jobs. I chose to reject OCS back in BMT for a reason; because I hated being an officer due to the intensive administrative work they have to do. So I'm constantly asking myself why I am doing a DyS3's job?

Yes being an officer has its prestige, so much so that officers overlook the importance of specialists more often than not. But I have never regretted going to SCS because I love engaging with people. It's what specialists do. It's what I do! But what is a specialist doing in an office setting, doing jobs an officer is supposed to?! And I'm only an NSF. I feel that I'm wasting my NS life!

I'm definitely going to request a transfer back to Alpha Company to be reinstated as instructor before my National Service Transition Training. Being in the office will not do much good to my combat fitness and I feel that taking the ST Combat Course will improve the situation.

Before I end, HAPPY 21st Birthday 2LT Wayne Lim Xian Feng!
